FAQ

  • How can therapy help?
All humans have the innate ability to heal and change their brains through the process of neuroplasticity and positive relationships. However, therapy can help expedite and facilitate the healing process as most people find relief and benefit in being able to talk freely in safe environment. The non-judgmental and curious attitude of the therapist can empower clients to explore parts of themselves, behaviours and emotions that may be challenging to explore in everyday life. They can also foster self-exploration/insight, provide psychological/neurobiological knowledge (psycho-education) and offer tools and practices to help regulate the nervous system and increase mindfulness.
  • How many sessions will I need?
It depends. Therapy is a bit like exercise. Some people require more sessions over a longer time period to benefit, others can see change quickly. However, like exercise, monthly sessions do not normally work that well. Initially, most people benefit from 10 or more sessions at a frequent basis (weekly or fortnightly) and then after a period of therapy they may find they want to space out sessions or "graduate" from therapy. Some people find that a long term approach is what they need to feel supported in life and they see the financial commitment as an essential investment to their health and wellbeing. Often people enter or re-enter therapy for periods when they have a difficult life transition they would like some additional support. Although therapy works well when there is a commitment to treatment, there is no obligation and clients can stop at any time.
  • What does a session look like?
Clients take the lead regarding what they want to discuss or work on in sessions. I tend not to work to a rigid session plan or structure unless preferred by the client. I do like to discuss goals and seek feedback and review how therapy is going to ensure the client is getting the most out of therapy and to address any issues or concerns. I tailor therapy techniques to each client based on their goals, preferences and what therapeutic interventions resonate with them. I make sure not to use a one-size fits-all approach. Some clients love psycho-education, others enjoy working with the body and mindfulness and others love talking about their dreams and the meaning of life. These preferences can change from session to session ! I welcome exploring and experimenting in sessions to find out what works for each client and what they enjoy.
  • Is everything discussed confidential?
Your privacy is of utmost importance. As per the law and the Australian Counselling Association ethical guidelines, everything discussed and all notes taken are confidential. Notes are kept online for a period of 7 years and are encrypted and password-protected. The only time notes or what is discussed may be disclosed outside the therapy room is when the client or someone they know is at significant risk of harm or information is subpoenaed by a court of law. Occasionally, the therapist may seek consent from the client to discuss information with another health professional or family member. If confidentiality must be breached, it will be discussed with the client who will be fully informed and supported through the process. Please feel free to ask for more details about confidentiality.
  • What is an FAQ section?
An FAQ section can be used to quickly answer common questions about you or your business, such as “Where do you ship to?”, “What are your opening hours?” or “How can I book a service?” It’s a great way to help people navigate your site and can even boost your site’s SEO.
